Heritage Open Days Tour #1

About the Event
Ecospheric has transformed two Victorian semi-detached homes in Chorlton, Manchester into Passive House Plus certified buildings- the world’s highest standard for energy efficiency. Most passive houses are built brand new (94%), but in this case, we've taken the most difficult category of building to upgrade: a 124-year-old Victorian house. We’ve gone to painstaking lengths to preserve the facade and make the existing structure airtight. With the help of solar panels and the latest innovations in heating and ventilation, the houses will produce 25% more energy than consumed. The point of all this? If we can do it here, it means it can be done with most other homes in the UK; thus, greatly reducing the carbon consumption of homes. The passive homes, named Ingleside and Woodleigh, promise to produce incredibly low bills and minimal maintenance that outperforms over 99% of new builds and certainly any property of its era worldwide.
About the tour:
This is a self-guided tour. Upon entry, you will be given a map and brochure about the home and you will be free to explore the house at your own pace. Members of the Ecospheric team will be on-hand to answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
There are stairs to enter the house as well as 3 flights of stairs within the house. Hallways and stairs may be crowded at times. Visitors with restricted mobility may find this property difficult to traverse.
There are toilets onsite.
