Job Posting: Passive House Consultant / Engineer

Ecospheric is an award winning Passive House consultancy which supports planners, architects and developers in designing and delivering pioneering eco developments that save carbon and drive technological change. We have a track record of supporting projects ranging from complex Passive House retrofits and innovative Paragraph 80 projects on landed estates through to the design of multi-story Passive House residential developments and low energy commercial and institutional buildings including schools and hospitals.

 

The company also leads the industry with its ground-breaking sustainable property developments incorporating the latest low energy technologies and methodologies. Current projects include a food hall aiming for zero energy and zero waste, a residential development of 5 new build zero petrochemical and concrete free certified passive house premium homes, the conversion of a 300 year old Yorkshire barn to off-grid group accommodation, and the zero energy renovation of an Elizabethan grade II* listed hall (our new office) .

 

To help us meet the increasing demand for sustainable design, we are looking to grow our team of Passive House consultants with a technically minded individual from a building services, engineering or architectural technologist background.

POSITION DETAILS

Title: Passive House Consultant / Engineer

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: £25,000-£40,000 dependant on experience

Location: Lymm, Cheshire

Hours: Full time or part time

JOB ROLE

As a key member of our team, you will provide expertise to shape and define some of the most ambitious, award winning sustainable projects in the UK.

 

The role would initially cover four main elements:

  1. Prepare and develop PHPP models, using designPH and PHPP software as well as support the creation of dynamic simulation models for commercial projects. Creation of reports, graphs and diagrams to present design options and key information for inclusion in sustainability statements, RIBA stage reports and design team/client presentations.

  2. Critique architectural designs/details and investigate and evaluate new technology coming on the market. Where required, use software such as THERM and WUFI (training to be provided) to calculate U-values, moisture diffusivity etc to help inform decisions. 

  3. Liaise with members of external design teams and other associated organisations to answer queries relating to the PHPP model or MEP specification. Also taking responsibility for coordinating the submission of suitable evidence for Passive House certification. 

  4. Creation of outline M&E specifications and designs including MVHR, space heating and domestic hot water.

 

Working in a small team within an evolving industry, there is plenty of opportunity for role development as you gain experience. 
 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in retrofit and/or new build with sustainable design focus (essential)

  • Good understanding of building services and renewable technologies (essential)

  • Professional qualification related to the built environment (essential)

  • Experience in using a range of software and manipulating data. We won't expect you to necessarily have experience in all the software we use, but you will need the ability to pick them up quickly  (essential)

  • Competent in using an architectural software program such as CAD, REVIT, SketchUp, etc (essential)

  • Proficient in PHPP modelling, including the use of variants, services tabs and PHPP tools (desired)

  • Experience with dynamic simulation modelling such as Design Builder or IES (desired)

  • Certified Passivhaus Designer / Consultant (CEPHD/CEPHC) (desired)

  • MVHR design (desired) 

  • CAD and Sketchup proficient (desired)

  • THERM (desired)

  • WUFI (desired) 

  • Experience in creation of client facing presentations (desired)

  • A full UK/European driving licence (desired)

  • Excellent spoken and written English (essential)
