Heritage Retrofit Methodology Development

Location:

Wirral

Project Type:

Research

Status:

Services Offered:

Research collaboration with the University of Liverpool’s School of Architecture and Wirral Council

We are extending our research at Lymm Hall to understand how this research can be scaled up and applied to larger settings such as town centre regeneration projects.

We’re working with Wirral Council and the University of Liverpool’s School of Architecture to develop a retrofit methodology for listed buildings. This has involved a literature review of heritage preservation policies and the development of a guidance document for retrofit best practice.

We hope that with future research funding, we’ll be able to carry out energy modelling on a number of case studies including six buildings located in the Grade I listed Hamilton Square in Birkenhead. This Georgian square designed by James Gillespie Graham in the 19th century includes 63 Grade I listed properties and is on Historic England’s “at risk” register.

The research project seeks to combine expertise on building energy modelling with policy research in order to influence the technical guidance for retrofitting listed historic buildings.
