EnerPHit Grade II Listed Lodge House
A historic listed lodge building in the Wirral's Birkenhead Park aiming for EnerPHit certification
This beautiful Grade II listed lodge sits in the heart of Wirral's historic Birkenhead Park. Built in the 1840-1850's, this retrofit aims to be the first certified EnerPHit retrofit of a listed building in the UK.
After falling into a state of disrepair for a number of years, the current owners have ambitious plans to restore and retrofit the lodge to provide a case study for the low energy and sustainable refurbishment of listed buildings. Ecospheric has worked closely with the client and architects Progress in Practice to carry out PHPP energy modelling and Passivhaus design.
Central Lodge has served as a case study for a joint research study between Ecospheric and the University of Liverpool's School of Architecture. This research study titled "Preserving the Past for the Future" involved carrying out dynamic thermal modelling, whole life carbon modelling, and optioneering analysis for the project. The case studies provide real world examples to support the development of a methodology for policy and technical guidance for retrofitting heritage buildings subject to preservation policies.
In March 2024, the project passed a major milestone having been granted listed building consent. Work is now underway on-site and progress can be followed via the project's Instagram page @27ashvilleroad
