Holistic Ventilation and Retrofit of a Montessori School
Enhance ventilation and sustainability at a London Montessori school through a comprehensive retrofit improving indoor air quality, airtightness, and thermal performance.
This is a Montessori school we are supporting in the London area. Since the pandemic, the importance of good ventilation has really hit home in the education sector, which motivated this school to explore what could be done to improve ventilation. The issue is that ventilation cannot be retrofitted in isolation. We need to take a holistic approach to designing in ventilation and that means understanding the airtightness and thermal performance of the whole building. We are supporting this school by creating a framework for a phased approach to retrofit.
Using building energy performance data obtained through dynamic simulation modelling, we will undertake an optioneering analysis to formulate lists of potential beneficial options for both cost-saving and sustainability covering the following:
- Architectural feasibility
- Structural feasibility
- MEP feasibility
- Classroom equipment feasibility
- Kitchen equipment feasibility
