Paragraph 139 New Forest Passivhaus

Neo-classical country house in a grade II listed park and garden

Planning permission and listed building consent has been granted (March 2026) for a new country house on a historic estate in the New Forest National Park. Ecospheric supported with Passivhaus energy design and sustainability advice for the approved new build dwelling which will replace an existing 1960s house.

Ecospheric worked with Ben Pentreath Ltd to develop the Passivhaus design and energy strategy for the principal dwelling. The proposal comprises a stately neo-classical style country house constructed using sustainable materials, and incorporating renewable energy generation and low energy technologies.

Additional proposed works on the estate include the restoration of two listed buildings and the construction of a new farm estate building. The outbuildings and farm estate building were designed by PAD Studios. The Landscape Masterplan, which seeks to bring back the parkland landscape to its former glory, was created by Kim Wilkie.

Hughes Planning oversaw the successful planning strategy and submission. Architectural historian and commentator, Jeremy Musson, reviewed and commented on the design.
